What Is Senpai Magazine
Senpai Magazine is unlike any other anime magazine. We strive to be the voice of the older fans in the community. We grew up with anime, and in a way the American anime culture grew up with us.
From the early days of watching bootleg fansub tapes from Chinatown, we've watched the industry and the fan culture change with the times. There was a time in the recent past that American companies had no faith in these strange Japanese cartoons. Today they make billions localizing and marketing them to willing fans. Conventions were once small local events that occurred only infrequently. Today conventions have grown into massive multiday spectacles, with fans traveling cross country to attend. These changes are not lost on us. We have grown and changed along with the culture we love.
So as older members of the community we have a different perspective; one that comes with these years of experience. That's not to say our way of thinking is superior. We just feel the current marketplace does not reflect our views and interests in the way it once did. We hope to rectify that.
As a magazine, we'll bring you meaningful discussion on the issues facing our community. Reviews of anime forgotten by the main stream, reflection on retro classics, and opinions on the future of our hobby. That's not to say we'll disregard what's hot, new and exciting, but you can get that anywhere. We want to bring you the content you won't find anywhere else.
Our Visions For The Web
We envision this website to be the glue that fills in the gaps between our issues. Being a quarterly magazine means that there will be plenty going on in the anime world that we won't be able to cover. Through our blog as well as a podcast, articles, and a newsletter we will keep you, the readers, informed and entertained.
